Rabbit, Rabbit!

I can't get the picture to post so here's a link  arliss.tumblr.com/post/696893528916295680/rabbit-rabbit-first-of-october-and-days-are

Rabbit, Rabbit!

First of October, and days are getting shorter, wind is getting colder, nights are drawing in. Jack o'lanterns appear…watch what you see in them. Could be black cats, could be wicked grins, could be…bunnies!

Rabbit, rabbit! First of October. The air's getting nippy these glorious fall mornings. Leaves crunch underfoot and the scent of woodsmoke tickles our memories. Hot spiced cider? Or hot chocolate? Either's welcome on a chilly autumn morning.

An Easter story, of sorts.

Top photo: found this little guy on ebay, made an offer of $4,which was quickly snapped up by the seller. On arrival, he was combed all over to remove any trash from the fur, then scrubbed all over with a very damp terry washcloth, dried with a brisk scrub with a clean terry tea towel, and then scrubbed again with a very damp washcloth, and finally dried with another brisk rubdown with the clean tea towel. He was hung and allowed to dry overnight, and the next day, the fur was combed out. Middle photo is the result, sitting with Bunnypenny and same-size, same color sibling, Clover.

Shopped for the correct size domed black plastic shank buttons, without result. Found safety lock eyes the right size. Rather than me having to open a head seam (and since this will not be a child’s toy), my understanding husband cut the shanks of the safety lock eyes shorter and drilled holes in the stems, making shank buttons. With a long needle and carpet thread I looped between the eyes through the head (no, just don’t think about it!), tugged the thread to the right tension, tied the knot off and tucked the cut ends under the rim of that eye.

Now obviously a girl, she needed a name to go with her siblings: larger Daisy, same-size Clover, and smaller Snowdrop. We settled on Poppy. She’s snuggled in with her family now, all very happy.

Happy Easter Bunny!
