Oh, yes, we have several four-inch square tiles we put feet on to use as coasters. Well, to put under pillar candles, originally, and still, occasonally. The rest of the time they serve well under hot drinks. They don't deal well with condensation runoff on cold glasses, though. We have cork coasters for those.
OH brings me a hot sandwich for lunch occasionally, too hot to eat. Eschewing a plate, he brings it on a paper towel, and sets it on a tile coaster to cool. We call it "the cooling tile" now.
