SPN_Darkside Discussion today
Mar. 4th, 2018 11:13 amBut I remember the first four seasons, when we never knew if we'd been picked up for the next season until the very last minute. The Impala was left ticking in a field as her metal cooled after being T-boned by a semi truck in the first season finale. If the show hadn't been picked up, the Winchester story would have ended in that field.
At the time, the CW was spending what ad budget they had on all the nighttime soaps: Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, etc, and since Dawn Ostroff had no love at all for Supernatural, we were lucky if there was a flash of Jensen and Jared included in a 30 second montage of new and returning shows on the network. I don't even think there were "tonight at 9:00 a new episode of Supernatural" ads for the first two seasons.
So all the excess now, all the comic con panels, the international SPN cons, print and talk show interviews, books on the meta of the show, magazine spreads--whole magazine issues!--devoted to Supernatural. It makes me laugh--I'm just not sure if that's triumph or ironic laughter. Maybe a bit of both.
But. During the hiatus, I seem to have fallen headfirst down the Shadowhunters rabbit hole. I haven't felt this squeeful about a show since early-seasons SPN.
It's running on the former Disney family channel, Freeform, and if you have Instant Watch, the first season, plus all aired episodes of season two are available there. Plus I think there's an app or something.
ANYway. Pretty actors*, pretty sets, surprising emotionally deep storylines and relationships for a fantasy genre tv show on a lesser-known channel. Give it a try--what've you got to lose?

*case in point: the High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane, is wonderfully played by Harry Shum, Jr. previously appearing as Mike Chang on Glee. (point: biceps!) The rest of the cast is gorgeous, as well. I'm smitten. I'm full and overflowing with smit.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that Lisa Berry, SPN's own Billie the Reaper, has a recurring role early in S2.

Something Good Today
Nov. 10th, 2016 03:05 am
here
Lets bring something good into the world. Let's hold hands, if only virtually, and not be alone in this. Let's reaffirm that we care about each other, and we don't stand for bigotry. Let's write (and draw and record and stuff).
Prompts are open for anything - any or no ships, any or no kinks, go for it.
Extra cookies if your prompt negates some bigoted concept, we could give love in places it's particularly lacking right now. We can reaffirm that we all have a place here, that we stand with each other. Women, POC, survivors, immigrants, disabled people, fat people, MOGAI people, poor people, etc - especially anyone that's more than one of those things - deserve some extra love, today and in general.... But prompts don't have to do that - anything comforting is welcome, and different things comfort different people! Fun, fluffy, funny, porny, angry, dark, it's ok!
How this works:
How to prompt: Leave a comment with a prompt, preferably with some basic information in the subject line (ship/gen/character, kink, genre - whatever works for you). You can leave as many prompts as you like.
How to fill: Comment to any prompt you like with fic, art, podfic, playlists, gifsets - any form of fanwork is welcome. Feel free to fill prompts that were already filled. If you feel like leaving anon fills, go for it! If you feel like leaving cute little 'created in ten minutes' fills for fun - those are welcome too!
Rules:
1) Be kind.
2) No spoilers for unaired episodes without a cut/link, please.
3) Use content warnings generously, please. It only takes a moment, and can make the difference between brightening someone's day and making it horrible. We've got enough horrible.
4) Anything promoting bigotry should not be included. If you're not sure, you're welcome to ask me, we can try to figure it out together. If something bothers you - same thing. Sometimes things can be bigoted without bad intent, we'll try to navigate this with compassion if it happens here now. Most things are ok if you clearly warn for them.

But as I went down the list there were two, maybe three, instances of wanting to meet the characters (I added Pamela). But in *every* instance I'd want to meet the actor, to thank them for the character they brought us, but basically just to talk technique and their experiences in the film industry.
I added a few: the Megs, both Nicki and Rachel, the Rubys (definitely, both actors), the Samanthas, Ferris and Smith, Alona, Adrienne, the Laurens, both Tom and Cohan. I'd love to meet Steven Williams, and Kevin McNally, who played Frank (and Mr. Gibbs, in Pirates of the Caribbean). (Sneaking in after posting to add Osric)
There are several characters I'd not want to meet: Lucifer, Cain, Funboy--um, Kubrick, or Nitti--er, Doc Benton, but I'd love to have conversations with Pellegrino, and Omundson, and maybe Drago and Massee, too. I'm still too angry with Charlie to have a civil conversation with her, but I'd love to meet Felicia.
two posts in two days. I'm trying!

Fu's Master Fic List
Sep. 11th, 2015 08:45 pmI am also on Archive of our Own here!
Please do not re-post any of my fic, comments, or anything else from this archive to another website, including Twitter, Facebook or other social networking sites. Especially do not post recs or summaries of my work to GoodReads or any similar site. The stories are not meant to represent real people, only the characters they play. That idea is frequently misapprehended and doesn't translate well outside fandom. Fandom works should stay in fandom. Reccing a story within the confines of LJ, Tumblr, DW, or AO3 fandom is fine, but I prefer to not have summaries of my writing with RPS characters up on any site for critical review. It isn't fair to the actors and it's completely out of the context of fandom for which it was written.
NOTE: I retain ownership of all stories posted here and on AO3 under the same user name.

Aug. 21st, 2015 10:41 amAugust 21st: Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day
It is not surprising news that fanfiction writers are highly underappreciated.
There’s something wrong with the numbers: let’s take a popular fic with almost 4k hits. For let’s say 700 readers, it will get about 50 comments and 300 Kudos (those numbers are just an example, sometimes it’s worse than that). Maybe I’m being too kind, maybe not, but things stay the same; there’s something wrong here. Can you see it?
It takes us days, weeks, sometimes months to write a story for you. We write for ourselves yes, but we also write to share. We write to offer you content about your favourite characters. We write to bring our and your ships to life. It takes you a fraction of second to leave a Kudos, ten seconds to one, two or a few minutes to leave a comment.
And here lies our problem: there’s no proper sharing if there’s no proper feedback. An author not getting comments is generally a sad author. If I didn’t get feedback I’d wonder what’s the point in keeping on writing. A comment makes a writer’s day, most of the time even motivates them to write more.
Another important thing thrandythefabulous and I noticed: why on Earth do so many readers don’t comment (even kudos) if the fic has been up for a little more than a week or two? Why? Your feedback is still welcomed and much appreciated.
We write for ourselves, but also we write for you. And sadly, many readers are being quite… ungrateful, when giving feedback is the least they can do to thank the people offering them stories for free.
So, before we get started on our little day, let’s talk about comments:
It doesn’t matter if other readers already said what you wanted to say, we’ll still love reading it again in your words.
It doesn’t matter the fic has been up for weeks or months or years; comments on those ones are unexpected and so, it makes them ever better.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t have much to say, we’ll be glad anyway.
Most authors leave the comment section open to people who don’t have an Archive of Our Own (AO3) account, which means you can still… comment! How amazing is that.
That brings us to our little Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day.
The point of this day is simple; on August 21st, writers and readers alike would go on AO3 (or any fanfiction website really), on Tumblr, and leave a comment on their favourite fics (even the fics they enjoyed!) and/or send their authors a message about their works.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve already or never commented. It doesn’t matter if the author doesn’t know about this post. It doesn’t matter if the author already knows how much you love their work.
Just let writers know you love the fics they write for you, simple as that!
And well, don’t forget to keep leaving a Kudos and a comment in the future, and make writers happy! Not giving anything away, but...
Jun. 2nd, 2015 05:48 pmBut the thing is, I can't just sit here and moon at it (I want to! It's so pretty!), I need to work on my second draft. And do real stuff, even if it's not as much fun as fic.
So. I should...go do that. Over there.

May. 18th, 2015 11:18 amAlla y'all here that didn't post there--just know if you're part of this fandom family thing, you get hugs and love from me, too.
But I have Obligations to meet and Promises to keep, and so fic shall be my carrot. Keep me on track this weekend to finish what's on my plate, and next week I'll wallow in all the pretty, angsty, porny fiiiiic!!!
The Phoenix con vids, photos, and accounts should be up by then, too. (Work faster, woman! Work faster!)
