OH is rebuilding the neighbor's deck, from the crap job the handyman she hired did before she fired him. Support posts that don't reach the ground! Verticals that are *visibly* an inch and a half off plumb! Decking cut too short and pieced badly! We both knew it would drive him crazy if it wasn't fixed *right*, so he volunteered and she's helping with the digging and the clearing of rocks and the packing of gravel and sand, etc. Because she has a crop of them, she sent me another dahlia. This was the only thing heavy and wide at the base, narrow at the neck enough to support it. It's recycling. Kinda. Please to ignore the dust.

That's what we thought--it's five feet off the ground, and she's a wee little woman in her 70s--he couldn't let it go, and I agreed with him. It's gonna be rock-steady, and level and plumb.

Yikes, that deck job sounds light a nightmare. Good on OH for stepping in to do damage control! And wow, that's such a giant, impressive flower. I like! And approve of the vase, as well. XD

Also, those glass orbs are super cool, especially as a photographic element.

I have a soft board on the deck. I'm going to try and replace it myself and see if I can keep it together a few more years. Fingers crossed.

If timing works out, I may drop by next Thursday on my way to VanCon, if it's OK. Depends on when I'm able to get away, and whether I have someone with me (hopefully not).

We have tiny ones--grown in a planter. They're bright orange-coral and a sad kind of faded purple-red. I think I'd love dark burgundy ones.
