SPN 12.06 spoilers
Nov. 18th, 2016 12:19 pmI mentioned this elsewhere, but I figured I'd better put it here and be accountable. Honestly, I have the impresson the plot was kind of weak and hand-wavey, and only existed to string little pearls of wonderfulness on--at least for me.
In first order of importance, I loved the Jody and Mary meet. And more, that Ellen Harvelle's name and the Roadhouse were invoked. Three strong women, hunters (in Jody's case hunter-adjacent, but still), and all fierce mothers. Underplayed, but so valuable.
And in no order of importance, I loved the tattling little brother look Sam gave Dean when he told Jody about Dean's fondness for anime porn. So perfect. I love the Winchesters finding out they're legendary. Elvis' fangirling was a bit hard to take, but at least someone who knows showed Sam some appreciation for what he did. I love the wendigo drinking game.
I love the twins, and I would *love* to hope we get to see them again. I love that Mary herself was legendary, at least to Asa, and that he thought of her as he became a hunter himself. I love that Jody had a relationship with Asa. Seems unlikely, at first thought. But oddly logical on further thought.
I love Kim Rhodes, from Jody's hoodie and flannel inside pants to her remarkably effective possession, she's just a joy to watch. I'd be perfectly content to just watch the Jody show, with rotating guest backup of Donna, Alex, and Claire, saving people and hunting things. I want to get a beer with Jody and just hang out for a day or two. And I wouldn't mind spending some time with Kim, herself.
Also, any episode when Billie shows up brightens my day. It's a joy to watch Lisa Berry work her character. Between her and Kim, I'm just starry eyed from this ep (A secret wish is to find a script or a project to get Berry and Gina Torres on my screen at the same time. Of course it would probably explode with all the awesomeness, but I would die happy).
As I said, or perhaps only intimated so let me say it now, the storyline of the ep didn't impress me all that much, but I love the moments, the relationships and connections between the characters. Yeah, more of that, please.

Date: 2016-11-18 08:45 pm (UTC)I liked the script for the fact that secondary and even tertiary characters still had a purpose and something to say. And the whole wake/party really was strung like pearls - moved pretty smoothly from group to scene to conversation, not sproing!-ing around like previous eps from this season. (Looked a lot like every wake I've been to.)
