My PCP prescribes OTC supplements for me, for various and sundry ailments and things my body does wrong, or doesn't do right, whatever.

Among those supplements are fish oil, in gel caps truly the size of horse pills, and those two-part gelatin capsules they put dry ingredients in and then fit together, one holds turmeric, one holds cinnamon. There are also various vitamins, plus a couple of actual prescription drugs. Yes, I do tend to rattle when I walk, in case you were wondering.

All these pills are oversized, and I have to take them a few at a time, rather than all the handful at once, because sometimes I have trouble getting them down. The cinnamon, for example, seems to get lodged halfway down, the capsule slips apart, and then I have a large, embarrassing burp. Ground cinnamon powder on bare mucus membrane, such as the esophagus? Burns. OH used to laugh and disbelieve me, until the day I had a huge cinnamon burp, and a small cloud of cinnamon powder puffed out of my mouth. Such fun.

I used to take flaxseed oil in the big gelcaps, but we couldn't get that for some reason, so I got switched to the fish oil, which is not bad, but I can smell it before I put it in my mouth, and taste it before I get it swallowed.

You know what's coming, right? The other day I'd dutifully swallowed all the pills, and then had a huge cinnamon-fish oil belch. So bad I choked, thought I was gonna yak, choked it all back down and chugged some water, then walked around in circles half bent over, cursing for a few minutes. GAH.

So, I'm not taking the fish oil caps any more. Whatever they were preventing, or promoting, can just blow me. Can't make me! Neener.

I take vegan omega-3s. Much easier to swallow (and no fishy burps). Maybe worth a try? They're made from seaweed.

Try Schiff's MegaRed krill oil (omega-3) softgels - really small, no aftertaste, just one a day, and you still get your omega-3s.

My mum takes those ridiculous horse-pill-sized cod liver oil capsules and I have NO idea how anyone manages to swallow them.

I believe you can get flax oil in bottles and add it to your food instead of trying to take it in capsules. Maybe you can find something like that?

Heeeeee.
Sorry.
*pat pat pat*
There, there.

At least the caps like that are mostly slippery/smooth, unlike horse pills that are chalky and dry.

I have to get a big gulp of a drink (not water, that makes me ill), and hold the liquid in my mouth, tip my head back, and slip the pill in, and swallow it all together. One at a time. Only way i can do it.

I sympathize... I don't like to swallow large pills, either.

Flax oil in liquid is much easier to take. Or you can do flaxseed meal.

I think I heard it's better not to heat it, so use it in dressing or put it in a drink. My husband used to put several drops in his tomato vege juice every morning.

Some of those supplements do seem rather large!!! My old boss used to eat raw garlic which he would swear by for all kinds of ailments, but he did used to smell really bad. His family would urge him to take it in capsule form, but he wouldn't do it, he liked the natural properties of raw garlic!

Steve is forced to take the hugest cod liver oil omega 3 rich capsules, but they help, he creaks and cronks less, and when he doesn't take them he feels like creaky hammered shite. You can get flax oil in liquid form and place drops in your food as you prepare it, maybe that would be better?
