I don't remember signing up for this...

I wanted a nice little row of pots of colorful flowers along the front of the house. Mainly geraniums and petunias, in all their glorious varieties, because petunias make me happy. OH just went nuts with the plants and the pots and the glavin. He discovered he didn't like buying annuals every spring, and started converting our pretty colors to... perennials. Which are mainly...green. And, well, they're better than empty pots, I suppose, but they don't thrill me the way !!Petunias!! do. So OH does rafts of little pots, instead of a dozen big pots with multiple plants, and they spread along both sides of the house and in back, as well as in front. And then he grouses and gripes about having to water and deadhead them all, but he does it because secretly he enjoys it. And then he goes away for six or eight weeks and I am privileged to water these...plants.
I got the front and half the side yard done this morning. I'll do the rest of the side yard and the back tomorrow. The neighbor is getting the other side when she does her own. I hope nothing dies of drought between now and tomorrow morning.

He got a huge amount done. The eight feet of DVD & CD shelving took a lot of careful measuring, cutting, painstaking putting things together, and more than a couple of hours just tacking the backing onto the unit, one shelf and vertical divider at a time.

He's off again, supporting his family as his brother undergoes cancer surgery. While he's gone, I get to load the DVDs and CDs, and rearrange the books so they make better sense than "out of box, onto shelves."

And then, yay! It's the Dread Closet Reorg. That's the bane of having a walk in closet big enough for a small nursery or reading room. So. Much. Stuff to sort and cull and purge and reorganize. And then, and THEN, there's the massive tarot culling and reorganizing.

Or, you know, I could nap.

Wow. Look at all that organization!I am so impressed.Your OH is a genius, and did I mention...so many books and dvds The closet should be a cinch after all that but it's tough to be alone for it so remember that I'm here waving my pom poms for you.

So many years with all my books out of reach in *boxes!* I nearly cried when I rediscovered and shelved my college history of art book, and the Cousteaus, my poetry and writing theory books! My Japanese and Irish women poets!

Part of not getting the organization done is losing myself in the pages of an old friend. After such a long time, it's wonderful to have places for them to be accessible. And, current decorator tastes aside, I firmly believe Books Do Dress A Room!

Books certainly do dress a room, and your room and living space looks wonderful.

I can only imagine how good it must feel to find them and have them shelved, out in the open. It must be wonderful.

WOW, i love that white set of bookshelves! I need more, myself - i wish i could afford a whole set of Barrister's bookshelves (the kind with glass-fronted doors).....

If i were nearby, i'd help you with your closet - i'm a champion tosser-outer and re-organizer. :) (Mostly, i just like to get rid of stuff so i don't have to fool with it.)

The white shelves are precisely nine inches high and six inches deep--a sliver off the footprint of the room, and accessible storage for CDs, DVDs, and what trade paperback books don't fit in the "book" shelves.

OH is planning another shelf unit in the foyer--he's measured to make sure the hall closet door and the front door will open flat if he builds it no deeper than the hinge line on either door. Four inches deep, precisely, for mass market paperbacks.

We're gonna look like a secondhand bookshop once it's all done. *G* Not that I'm complaining.

Awesome! I wish i had pocket doors, so i wouldn't have to fuss with stupid lost space. I need *several* more bookshelves.....

I hate when my books are stacked up in front of each other, so i have to take a whole shelf out to look at the stuff behind.

Yes, everything was double--and in the case of MMPB, triple--stacked, in the old house. We purposely bought and built shallow here, to avoid the double stacking. And we culled before the move, and again when I unpacked to shelve. Six or seven full boxes of books--a lot of once-read popular recent novels included--went either to the civic library or to our neighborhood volunteer-managed library. I found myself letting go of things like hardcover Joanna Trollopes, Delinskys, Siddons, Gabaldons and the "Bestiary" for the Outlander 'verse, and holding onto things like contemporary poets in trade paper, and my Wolfes, Noyes, Thoreaus, in the faded gilt stamped cloth bindings. They're more dear and irreplaceable. And I suppose my reading tastes for popular fiction have been distilled by excellent fic.

Our garden stopped being pretty colours years ago, lol. Steve's Mama used to plant each year but we just let it go to whatever it wants. Hence the seasonal colours of the flowering plants, but no real *flowers* as it were. I say nap, love ;)

My mother loved petunias. Me, I plant pansies every fall in honor of my grandmother - she and I planted them together, one of our fall rituals.

Your bookspace looks wonderful! (speaking as someone who has the vast majority of her books in storage right now) OH is clearly a creative and meticulous (and patient) man!
