Maybe they're not related by blood, but are family in another way? Step-siblings who grew up together would be a good example.

Makes me think the person really does not know what incest means...though I suppose if unrelated kids were raised together and had sex, it would have the same weight as incest.

Interesting point. In law, not-related-by-blood people are allowed to marry, even if they were raised together. Legally adopted siblings, it's trickier since *legally* they're related, but not by blood. I've heard of marriages between adopted siblings, which, though it shouldn't actually be, is a little ickier to my moral sense. Why is that?

And I'm using 'marriage' because I have no factual info on legally but not blood-related sexual partners and the law.

I think that though the law says it's fine, their families might feel differently. I'm right with you on that icky feeling. No matter what I write, RL is always different, of course. If you're raised with someone who's supposed to be your sibling, than by golly, they're your sib.

Well, it's all sort of ridiculous from my viewpoint: only child, adopted with no known blood relations, and ace, so, sort of missing the point on all counts. Empathy and imagination are my only hope!

I sort of think they were covering their bases: Sex between Sam & Dean=incest, but in this fic they're not related to each other, i.e. unrelated = unrelated incest? Maybe?

Otherwise, I just don't know.

I think it means that in the fic, they're not related. But they shouldn't use the word incest, it doesn't make sense.

Brain ache. Is this the au au Smith and Wesson (ie, the one where they are Dean Smith and Sam Wesson but in a completely different au entirely but its still incest because its still Sam and Dean??? I read that one this weekend. In all honesty I read it as a J2 but it was for a story bingo of AUs so yeah, there was a reason at least.

No, this was some non-AU Supernatural world fic, I thought at first Sam and Dean were separated when they were little, but no, this was just a random hookup between guys who looked and talked like our Sam&Dean, but they weren't related. So...just "sex", then, right?
