I had both accounts over there, but I've been so very lax about updating. I just re-imported this journal to DW, and the first few entries I'd already imported are doubled. The rest looks okay.

I imported the LJ I've had for...more than a decade several years ago, and manually crossposted for a long time, and then, just...didn't. I need to figure out how to purge all the content in that DW account, and import all of it from LJ, fresh. Because double posts over several years? Not pretty.

But yes, both DW names are the same as LJ names, so just let me know when you get there and I'll add you.

Yes. That was my first LJ lo, these many years ago. This was intended to be my fic journal (I had elderly and underage relatives reading the other journal, and when I started posting mpreg I didn't want to give anybody the vapors). But over time, a lot of my flist there drifted off to other fandoms and other sites, and I gradually shifted my attention here, rather than there. I've kept the other LJ because of longtime friends (and mems, and also flocked LJs full of fic) I don't want to lose. I doubt arliss will be as active on DW as it was on LJ.

So for the moment, you're using it as back up for just in case.

I only use DW for back up but at least if LJ does go pear-shaped we have that site or AO3 if we need them. I also gave access to this journal name also on DW. So I can follow your current one too, if you don't mind.

Dude! Do I need to do that? I can't even keep up on my LJ stuff. Will everyone have two accounts? Should I try to read both places? You know I'm not very adaptable or technically adept. I think I'm not even using LJ the way most people do. *hangs head in shame*.

Okay, what I'm *trying* to do is set up a mirror on DW for my LJ accounts, and use the crossposting feature.

That means, if I can get it to work right, that when *I* make a post, I make it on DW and it xposts to LJ, and people can comment in either place. So far I've not got the xposting working yet.

If LJ goes flump, I'll have at least a record of my posts and comments here, to date. I won't have comments on LJ going forward, but you can't have everything, I guess.

I'll still be reading and commenting on my flist here on LJ, and those comments won't post over to DW either, so they'll be lost if LJ goes away. But we do what we can, right? Better to save some than none.

It's incredibly easy to import your LJ to DW--takes minues, and the destructions are easy. Then you just need to set up xposting and, when you make a post to your own journal, you do it on DW and it will xpost here, and people you have friended here can comment here or there, and people you friend at DW can comment there. Sounds complicated, but it's really not.

For all my whining about not moving, even I think I need to get myself a DW account O.o Problem is I don't think you can port across pictures and as most of my posts are picture based *eep*

I imported my whole journal, flist, tags, and icons--it dropped a lot of icons b/c I only have the minimum number. But all the photos in my posts are there.

It's a bit messier posting photos in a new post there--I've still not gotten crossposting to work, so I've posted twice today, once here, once there. It takes images in post *only* with a URL--you can't upload from your hard drive, only from an online site like Flickr or photobucket. So I right click and "view image" of what I uploaded here, copied the URL, and used that to post pictures. Time consuming, but I'm probably missing the easier way. I really do need to figure out the xposting from DW to LJ though, making posts twice is gonna get old fast.

I'm not sure about backing up my journal, and it's harder to post pics at dreamwidth, so I haven't been using it.

I hadn't been able to get autoxposting from LJ to work, so I've been manually xposting since I ported my LJ to DW. And cheating, because I'd compose the text at DW, copy that to LJ and post pictures into the text on LJ, then "view image" and post the URL on DW. It's been working really well. I've kind of gotten into a rhythm with it, now!

But no, I don't think you can post images from your hard drive, you have to post them somewhere online (Photobucket, Flickr, etc.)to get a URL for them, so you can post them at DW. It's a bug, and maybe somebody will look into it. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

One of the reasons I hesitate to get my LJ backed up to DW... my photos are hosted on LJ. If something happened to LJ, then my photos from imported posts would disappear, too.

I've had problems posting pics from photobucket to my LJ... that's why I switched to LJ for pic hosting (though it seems better now, but I don't know if it's permanently fixed). I don't know if the same issues would happen with DW. I wish that DW had a way to post pics from their own site, like LJ does.
