There wasn't a "Kicking Horse" character in Dances With Wolves. Graham Greene played "Kicking Bird,"and Rodney A. Grant played "Wind in His Hair"Both actors are quite a bit older than Eric.
Adam Beach, here in Smoke Signals, is about the same age as Eric.
I was thinking Wind in his hair. : ) Graham Green is Canadian, i’ve been a big fan of him for years. There is also another great native actor from Quebec, he’s a Mohawk and played the evil villain in Last of the Mohicans.
The actor who played Magua, the "villain" from Mohicans, is Wes Studi, Oklahoma Cherokee. He also played "Toughest Pawnee" in Dances With Wolves, more recently Joe Leaphorn to Beach's Jim Chee in the Skinwalkers, Navaho Mysteries series, and Eytukan (voice over) in Avatar.
Adam Beach is Saulteaux, from Manitoba. There's also a bit of Icelander in his background.
Eric Schweig is Inuit and Ojibwe/Anishinaabe, born in Inuvik, NW Territories, removed from his family and placed in the forced assimilation program, adopted by a German family who turned out to be so abusive he ran away at 16, and lucked into acting by accident.
Graham Greene is Oneida, born on the Six Nations Preserve in Ontario (local boy to you!).
And Rodney A. Grant is a member of the Omaha tribe of Nebraska, raised on the Omaha Reservation in Macy, Nebraska.
I confess to a particular interest in actors of color and their histories *g*.
Oh wow, I was laboring under a serious misconception. Someone told me ages ago that Wes Studi was Canadian from Quebec. Am I out to lunch or what? I knew Adam Beach was Canadian and yeah Graham Greene is a local boy : )
I loved that Rodney had such a compelling part in the show. But SPN is pretty good about having a bit of every, race, orientation, age etc.
I can't believe Big Eden is that old. Actually, I'm boggled at how old Mohicans is. It was filmed in NC, and I've walked that cliff trail, stood on the rock where Chingachgook killed Magua. Cora's hat and the blue war club were on display in the restaurant-gift shop for a while, as was a set of Hawkeye's buckskins. But all that was a boggling long time ago!
I can't believe he's so recognisable, seriously. And wow, I'd have loved to have seen those things, what a moment it would have been, to just stand there and see the buckskins, or just walk the path.
