At a recent con--I'm guessing NJcon or Dallas, but possibly Vancon, during the J2 panel someone commented on the realism of Sam's collapse in AHBL1, and asked Jensen whether it was rehearsed or discussed before the shoot. He said something like, "I knew he was going to fall, and I just had to get there to catch him."

Does that ring a bell for anybody? Does someone remember which con it was, or have a link to vid from that panel? ::bats eyes:: Pretty please?

I think I remember seeing that comment on one of the collections here--I want to say it was...this year's Dallas Con?? One of the most recent ones, I'm pretty sure. Sorry I can't be of more help! But I think it was the fangasm Twitter re-post on all_spn where I saw it.

You know I hadn't given that much thought - whenever I'd think about that time, Dean's speech to a dead Sam always trumped everything else.

But after that question and answer, I re-watched it; and if that was totally unrehearsed and just happened that way, then 'Wow' - good job guys.

Yeah, it was very affecting. And at first all I saw was Jensen's Dean, too. But then it hit me he was *reacting* to Jared's Sam, and I broke Jared's beats down, too: eyes up, knees give way, he can hear Dean, his eyes roll to the right as he loses consciousness, jaw falls loose, head rolls, he's gone (Yes I am an over-analytical little git).

He gave Jensen a wholly dying-dead Sam to react to, so he's at least partly responsible for Jensen's performance in that scene. Plus! Founding of the limp!Sam trope.
