But I wanted to say something in my own, as well.

This is heresy to a lot of people, but this news hit me harder than Bowie. Mr. Rickman lived in a back corner of my conscious mind, making wry and often hilarious, frequently poignant, comments on daily events, and most usually, on my own shortcomings. I can't believe he's gone. A most remarkable man.

...I need to go watch The Winter Guest, again. It's got his presence all over it. It'll be a while before I can watch Truly, Madly, Deeply, now.

Seen on Tumblr:

"John Winchester and Stacker Pentecost don't have time for Captain America's shit."

Next time JDM's at a SPN con, I want someone to ask him what he thinks about this phrasing. I have simple needs.

So, SyFy is running Gingersnaps 2: The Unleashed. I was idly surfing before I turned off the tv, and saw what looked like a larval familiar face. This movie already stars Emily Perkins (Becky), and Katharine Isabelle (Ava), and the cast also includes Brendan Fletcher (Max Miller, Nightmare).

But there's also a baby Tatiana Maslany, with white hair and pale, pale skin. Unfortunately even she wasn't a big enough inducement to keep me watching. It's late, I'm sleepy, and though I have seen both Ginger Snaps and Ginger Snaps Back, The Unleashed was just beyond me. Maybe another time.

I know it doesn't seem possible it's a week since Toronto Con 14, but [livejournal.com profile] heartsowild was there, and she brought back tons of great pictures, and even video of Jensen playing a guitar borrowed from a fan and singing a couple of songs he sings to JJ. So sweet! She's put up her con report, too, and apparently everybody had a great time.

I remember the cloud that Rob Benedict's stroke last year cast over the con. But from all reports, apparently he was fit and in fine shape and voice this year, so great to hear.

Crowd anxiety precludes my ever attending a con, so I'm grateful for the chance to live the experience vicariously through those who do, and who are kind enough to bring back pictures, vids, and stories. Amble over to http://heartsowild.livejournal.com/ and have a look at all the pretties, and let her know what you think.

At a recent con--I'm guessing NJcon or Dallas, but possibly Vancon, during the J2 panel someone commented on the realism of Sam's collapse in AHBL1, and asked Jensen whether it was rehearsed or discussed before the shoot. He said something like, "I knew he was going to fall, and I just had to get there to catch him."

Does that ring a bell for anybody? Does someone remember which con it was, or have a link to vid from that panel? ::bats eyes:: Pretty please?

I am not a Kevin Costner fan. The bloom fell pretty quickly off the rose of our relationship when he decided mid-movie that Robin Hood had an Indiana-ish accent, and I realized Prince of Thieves would have been a nearly-perfect movie with a Kevin of another name (Kline) in the role.

My preference for his absence on whatever screen I was watching was cemented the year both Wyatt Earp and Tombstone were released. Tombstone was flashy, with wonderfully cast characters, some in roles I'd never imagined for them. Earp was grittier, in many ways more realistic, and more honest. But two-thirds of the way through my only sitting, glorying in Quaid's Doc Holiday, I realized Wyatt Earp would have been a superb movie with the removal of forty minutes of Costner closeups.

This is my own prejudice, and I own it. I do not burden fans of Costner with it, nor expect anyone to share it. I abstain from comment when he and his movies are a topic of discussion.

So now, I'm faced with a decision of avoiding Draft Day, or seeing it and putting up with far more than forty minutes of Costner closeups and Indiana-esque accent, in order to see Tom Welling in what I think is his first post-Smallville role, and hear Sam Elliot's rumbly growl for the four or five lines he's probably given. If I wait for dvd or streaming, I can FF through all the Costner parts, right?

(There are exceptions to every rule, and Costner's is Bull Durham. Oh, my.)
