I can't let Season two day go by without adding to my earlier post. I never got beyond Episode 1! And while most of my favorite episodes of the entire series are in this season, most of the worldbuilding, much of the mytharc and overarching mythos, at least before the advent of the angels, I'm going to bow to others who have posted about particular episodes, most of them my favorites, from the season. And I'm going to go straight to the two-part finale.

At Dallascon 14 recently someone finally asked about Sam's death scene in AHBL 1. It's 11:20 minutes into the J2 breakfast panel, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_3Ahqfc2aM (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] maryjo24 for finding the vid for me!)

Jared did a truly amazing job of dying. As an actor will, I had it broken down by beats at one point, as Jared showed Sam's life slipping away. He gave Jensen a lot to work against, as Dean felt Sam dying in his arms. It's such a powerful scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQlKlfD8rYk

Dean's monologue over Sam's body in AHBL 2 before he sells his soul has been praised to the skies, and deservedly so. But Sam's death scene affected me as deeply, and both are etched into my memory.

For me, trying to process it took writing fic about it. If you're interested, it's here.

Yes. I think Dean's monologue is indeed powerful, and heartbreaking, but Sam's death for me is the truly heartbreaking moment. The joy at seeing his brother is etched into Sam's face, and evident in his voice, but the moment the knife enters his body... the way he crumples to the floor is just beyond anything. It's so... *hands* the way he hangs there for a moment, until Dean catches him and then that slide downward, the way he goes limp in Dean's arms is so painful to watch, and done fantastically. It's like every muscle in Sam's body stops working and his body is just empty of anything. The vacant look on his face as Dean is talking to him, it's so obvious Sam isn't there, his body is being moved by Dean, but Sam's gone even before he dies, he's just lacking in anything if that makes sense?

Deans's "No, no no," as he clutches Sam to him, and Sam's body, mouth open, eyes closed, truly empty expression. It kills me every single time.

Just well, Jared. Well done.

Sam's death scene wrecks me. Even just that screen grab has me all heart-clenchy. :( I really do think those seconds are some of Jared's best acting.

I also think there's something about this being the first "real" death that makes it even more devastating. Dean didn't know there was another option, he hadn't yet seen death reversed in any real way. Also, as a viewer, I was still new to the show and genuinely wasn't sure if Sam was coming back. The whole thing was just really well done. (As an aside - that's also why Dean's death in S9 was so devastating to me. It also feels like a real death. I know Jensen will still be on the show and I'm seriously excited for Demon!Dean, but Dean is dead. *sobs* I feel very conflicted!!!)

Oh that was such a powerful and moving scene! Great choice. The way Sam just crumpled and Dean caught him was so well done and then Dean shouting Sam's name, unable to comprehend the awful truth, God I'm choking up here again!!

Yes, both Jensen and Jared were fantastic in this scene and what surprised me from listening to the question from Dallas Con was that Jared said no one had ever asked about that scene before, unbelievable!
