What if the cast and staff of SPN really are done, they just don’t care anymore. But the network keeps stuffing twenties into their g-string and hollering, “More! More!” So the writing staff keeps turning out worse and worse scripts–they’ve gone beyond not caring to actively hoping to fail, and the cast keeps dancing, making kissy faces and grinding to the nonexistent beat of an old, tired tune. All of them are just hoping the drunk will finally pass out, and they can all go home.

I think that kind of sums things up. It's sad because none of us are tired of the 'REAL' Supernatural. The real Sam and Dean. Just no one likes this ugly cartoon Carver's turned the show into.

Well, Pedowitz at the upfronts just practically said that the network is *finally* reaching the coveted 18-34 male demographic, the bracket that pays highest dollar for advertising. Fans forget, the show isn't marketed to fans, it's the *fans* who are marketed *to* advertisers. And with SPN and Arrow, CW has finally arrived. Which is why the writers have taken a huge step away from Destiel, because it makes the majority straight male audience squirm, and also why they aren't writing complex emotional and socially aware scripts to appeal to the female fans, because there's no big money in the female demographic.

In short, yes, female fans keep the show on the air, but they don't matter because it's the much desired young straight male demographic show is delivering to the high-paying advertisers.

But as it matters to fans, essentially, they'll keep on throwing money at SPN as long as J2 keep doing it.

So basically, I'm looking at funding for the boathouse and college funds and wineries, with contracts guaranteeing lots more time off (fewer Sam&Dean scripts, more eps featuring co-stars), with lots of personal appearances being showered with love and adoration by fans.

Yes, I'm a cynical old broad with a knowledge of how the industry works I learned in the Whedon tv era. Lately it's become kind of starkly clear to me why I read more J2 than Sam/Dean. And now the shine's pretty much wearing off J2, as well.

I believe this. I think they don't want to be the bad guys. I really do believe Carter hates the show.

Carter follows the network's demands. He doesn't have a lot of choice, other than to step down and let the network pick another flunky.
