Nat Weather Service says we're getting a hyooge storm going into this weekend, high winds and heavy rain, Cat 5 hurricane stuff, beginning Thursday afternoon and going through the weekend, with even higher winds and heavier rains on Saturday. All with probable power outages.

So, I'm already psyching myself up to miss the SPN S12 premiere and no internet for days. I mean, small potatoes stacked up against loss of life and property. Still. Makes a person grumpy.

I love the fact this house is a single-story. Our two-story brick in NC used to sway and shudder in a high wind. Probably contributed a lot to my wind anxiety.

Tonight I called my mom in Seattle in case all the cell towers are blown down and the power goes out. :D I hope all is well -- it sounds like it is going to be a doozy.

Most of it is supposed to pass well north of Seattle. I hope your mom's area only gets the edges of it.

I habe to wait till it's online and than find a time away from the kids towatch and enjoy it.

I got an email from one of my staff in another building. Apparently, people in her group were skyping each other, all panicked about the storm. I sent them the policies about inclement weather and suspended operations, because I am mean. Also told them to make sure they had flashlights, food and water, and don't forget the pets. Then, I had to go to the Bookstore to buy another fancy flashlight, because I lost the one my brother gave me.

OH has been doing some work, digging next to the house foundation, and when I stepped out last evening before the rain started, he had lined up lawn chairs along the house wall, beneath the gutter and over the open ground, clothespinned tarps to them, draped the tarps over the seats and down to the ground, and anchored the edges of the tarps with rocks and paving stones. The intent was to create a "hill" to let rainwater flow away from the house, rather than seeping under to make a small lake. The tarps are still in place this morning, but wind and rain so far have been pretty mild. We'll see how it goes.
