siren song

We had a big blow last night, high winds, lashing rains, a cacaphony of windchimes, house flag flapping like sails fighting to escape their rigging. It wasn't as ferocious as the last two bouts, though, at least this time we didn't lose power. But all the roofs we can see (and probably ours as well) are festooned with blowdown cedar boughs, and there are trees down all over town. The baleful drone of the woodchipper parked two streets over has been unending since midmorning and shows no signs of stopping. I have images of Peter Stormare at the helm, shoving limb after limb into its voracious maw.

I need an aspirin for this headache.

Oh, hey--Fargo forever, right? Yabbut, this one was pretty tame, by comparison. There are flood watches, and we saw a couple of minor mudslides this morning, fresh rockfalls on the cliff drive, just little stuff, though. Nature doing her thang.

Our big blow was last week. Fortunately, none of my deodar cedar tree landed in my neighbor's yard, as he's a poop who pretends to be a nice guy. However, about a billion needles went into my gutters, clogging them so much that water was pouring out in huge waterfalls.

Finally got someone to come clean them today. One thing I can cross off my list.

Woodchippers are awesome.

I've been so glad DH keeps our gutters clear. He's sort of obsessive about it, but it does make for less of a chore after a blow. Sort of like dirty dishes--wash 'em all along, you won't have a sinkful sitting in week-old dirty water. What? Don't tell me you never...

And today I wore short sleeves under a light jacket and the sun was bright and innocent. I don't trust it for a minute, though. It'll snow eight inches next week, just you wait.

We're just now getting a good fake spring--I wore short sleeves under a light jacket and sort of basked like a timid little flower-face in the sunlight. I expect blizzard conditions next week.
