I loved the "Then" recap of some of the MOW's the guys have taken down--and not telegraphing which one they'd face this week. I loved Dean working on the car, repairing stuff he damaged or let go while he was an uncaring demon. I loved Sam bringing him coffee, and Dean's objection: "Real men don't drink coffee out of cups this small," and his possessive clutch when Sam offered to remove the offending item. And Dean's appreciation of the coffee and dismissal of the fanciness of the flavor in his hidden appreciation and quickly moving on to the business with Bobby's inheritance. I loved bringing Bobby in, so strongly to this episode, and that Sam called him "our surrogate father." *Love.*
I loved the guys operating like parts of a whole, each taking lead at one point or another. I loved smart Dean recognizing the pendant shape on the spine of the book and discovering the hidden attic. I loved the Clue murder weapons appearing as the show progressed. I loved Sam's expression when Dash said, "All families hate each other." "Mine doesn't." And he meant it, even if he had to backpedal a bit.
I loved Kevin McNulty's second SPN appearance as Phillip--his first was Roy LeGrange in Faith. I did keep expecting him to palm Dean's head, "All right, now." I loved the cougar twins, and the little flash of Jared, with the double hug and the "darlin'."
I loved the playing with Sam's fingers and commenting on how long they were--and Sam's obvious relief when Dean came to get him.
I loved the glimpse of Bobby's mercy, at letting the shifter child live, as long as she was kept locked up, and Bunny's gratitude to him. As mercy often is, Bobby's was repaid with regret, as the inevitable was only delayed, and the life Bunny's child had lived meanwhile was narrow and circumscribed by the attic and the sole company of her mother.
I love Sam stalling, completely trusting Dean to get to the trunk and the silver bullets, and back in time. I loved Dean's surge of murderous overkill, firing long after the shifter was certainly dead. In a gif of that scene, there was a flash of black eyes--I don't know if that was added by the person who made the gif, or if it was there onscreen. It wasn't needed--Dean's quite dark enough without having the added visual.
I like the unease, the faintly dry, metallic taste in the mouth, the uncertainty with which Sam sits shotgun as the brothers ride away. The respite of 10.05 is over, and we don't even know how much of Dean is yet to be discovered, mended, recovered.
I'm thrilled I didn't have to carefully pick and choose tiny moments from the episode to like--in fact to love and enjoy. It makes a nice change.Keep that up, show!

Date: 2014-11-21 04:48 am (UTC)I'm not sure if this was just me being overly hopeful, but when the boys were getting the jewels in the key appraised, there was a sign that said 'Jim's" on it. I was wondering if this might be a nod to JIm Beaver, as Bobby was mentioned so much in this episode.
