Too many pictures of too much stuff behind the cut...

If you look at the third picture, on the wall just to the left of the cupboard is the whole-house thermostat. In the fourth picture, the door immediately to the cupboard's left is the furnace. The wall oven is behind it, and behind that is the washer and dryer. Between the furnace and the washer-dryer is the hot water heater. Cozy little thermostat never feels the chill. OH has discovered how to motivate it, though--a bag of remedial frozen peas draped over the top of the thermostat for a minute or two usually results in the furnace kicking on. I keep him around because he's always on his toes like that. And for car maintenance.

of course, that Emily Dickinson's entire oeuvre can be sung to the tune of The Yellow Rose of Texas. Right?

(Ohh,) Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.

We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –

(So,) We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –

Or rather – He passed us –
(and) The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle – (!)

No, really. It works for all of them--

(Ohhh,) Ample make this bed.
(and yes,) Make this bed with awe;
In it wait till judgment break
(most) Excellent and fair.

Be its mattress straight,
(and) Be its pillow round;
Let no sunrise' yellow noise
Interrupt this ground. (Hey!)

But what you may not know is that The Prologue to the Canterbury Tales can be sung to the tune of The Lonely Goatherd. Don't believe me?

Whan that aprill with his shoures soote
Ladee odle ladee odle, lay hee hoo,
The droghte of march hath perced to the roote,
Ladee odle ladee odle oooh.

Lay, ho, ladee odle eeh hoo, lay ho, ladee odel ooh,
Lay ho, ladee odle eeh hoo, ladee odel ladee odel oooh!

..and so on. Told you!

It's cloudy, there's mirk wandering up the mountainside, it's not actually raining, not yet, anyway, but there's rain in the forecast. It is currently 64F, with a predicted high of 71F, and a low overnight of 51F.

For the last several weeks I've been wearing tee shirts so old and washed so thin you could read through them. Every fan we own has run nonstop, from early morning, when we pull cool air from the woods behind us into the house, push it through the house, and exhaust it out the front windows, until well after dark, when we've set all the fans to pull cool air in from outside.

Today? I am wearing *sleeves* and should someone come to the door or I have to run an errand, I am decent enough not to scare the horses, or small children. There's not a fan running in the house. It's positively *gloomy* outside today, and I want to go dance under the grey and lowering sky.

Friends, I left NC for the PNW for a reason. Today I have my PNW weather back, and welcome!

I think I might have something for dinner other than raw crudites and hummus, dark lettuce, cottage cheese, olives, boiled eggs/egg salad, fresh fruit, and popsicles.

H just made me the most incredible spinach and mushroom omelette for lunch. Garlic, onion, extra sharp cheddar, ricotta, mozzie, and a little asiago-romano-parm mix, just for fun.

Kill me now, I die happy.
